10 EASY HOMEMADE FACIAL TONERS

Toner may seem to be a needless step, but I assure you that this is not the case. It tightens pores and prepares them for the day, rebalances your skin’s pH, and removes any excess, oil, and grime that the cleanser may have left behind. The 10 easy homemade facial toners in this post have excellent recipes to start when transitioning to a DIY regimen since it is so simple to produce. Toner should be used after cleaning in the morning and at night for the greatest effects.

Facial Toner

1.   MINT TONER

YIELD: ABOUT 4 OUNCES TIME: 30 MINUTES

GOOD FOR: ALL SKIN TYPES

Mint stimulates circulation, and aloe Vera soothes and repairs. This toner is a perfect pick-me-up, and it’s especially good for healing blemishes. However, if you struggle with rosacea, this is not the toner for you, as mint can increase redness.

INGREDIENTS

FOR TEA:

1 cup distilled water

1 bag mint tea

1 teaspoon dried or fresh rosemary

FOR TONER:

½ tablespoon aloe vera juice

¼ cup witch hazel hydrosol

¼ cup of prepared tea

PREPARATION

  1. Simmer the water, teabag, and rosemary in a small pot on the stovetop until the liquid is reduced by half.
  2. Cool the tea after straining it.
  3. Combine 1/4 cup mint-rosemary tea with the aloe Vera juice and witch hazel in a medium bowl. Stir.
  4. Transfer to an airtight container using a funnel.

TO APPLY: Dampen a cotton round and wipe it over your face and neck, or spray it on with a mister bottle.

STORAGE: Refrigerate in an airtight container for 1-2 weeks.

APPLY TWICE DAILY

DID YOU KNOW?

Aloe comes in a number of forms, including juice, gel, and jelly. They are all somewhat different in consistency, and using the incorrect one will influence the output of your product—but not the advantages. If you only get aloe in one form (juice being the most popular), recipes that call for jelly will be a little runny, but still good.

2.   CUCUMBER TONER

YIELD: ABOUT 4 OUNCES TIME: 10 MINUTES (PLUS OVERNIGHT REFRIGERATION)

GOOD FOR: ALL SKIN TYPES

This refreshing toner balances the pH of the skin eliminates germs and removes dead skin. Cucumber reduces inflammation, therefore people who suffer from acne will appreciate the soothing effect.

INGREDIENTS

½ cucumber, cut into thin slices

¾ cup distilled water

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

PREPARATION

  1. Fill a glass jar halfway with cucumber slices. Soak in water overnight. Cucumbers should be strained and discarded.
  2. Combine the apple cider vinegar and all of the cucumber water in a medium mixing bowl. Combine thoroughly.
  3. Transfer to an airtight container using a funnel.

TO APPLY: Dampen a cotton round and rub it over your face and neck, or spray it on with a misting bottle.

STORAGE: Keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.

USE: Twice daily

DID YOU KNOW?

Commercial toners and witch hazel often include alcohol. I often hear about individuals using rubbing alcohol or other types of alcohol instead of toner. Unfortunately, this is a bad habit since alcohol dries, dehydrates, and ages the skin. The toners in this article treat skin problems in a safe, natural, and effective manner.

3.   TEA TONER

YIELD: ABOUT 4 OUNCES TIME: 30 MINUTES

GOOD FOR: MATURE SKIN

Tea is high in antioxidants, which combat oxidative damage, preserve collagen, and provide anti-ageing effects for your skin. When using tea in a recipe, always choose unflavoured choices, such as the suggested plain teas.

INGREDIENTS

FOR TEA:

2 cups distilled water

1 bag of green tea

1 bag of black tea

1 bag white tea

FOR TONER:

⅛ Cup apple cider vinegar

½ cup prepared tea

PREPARATION

  1. Simmer the water and tea bags in a small saucepan on the stovetop until the liquid is reduced by half. Remove the tea bags and set them aside to cool.
  2. Combine 1/2 cup of tea and vinegar in a medium mixing basin. Combine thoroughly.
  3. Transfer to an airtight container using a funnel.

TO APPLY: Dampen a cotton round and rub it over your face and neck, or spray it on with a misting bottle.

STORAGE: Keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.

APPLY TWICE DAILY

For a long time, apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been one of my favourite substances. It has various advantages, including helping to restore the skin’s pH level and its acid mantle (or the barrier between your skin and the outside world), which protects the skin and makes it less prone to environmental harm such as pollution, sun, and wind. ACV prevents skin from drying out and inhibits the development of germs and fungus.

Since the acids in ACV “digest” dead skin cells, it also provides exfoliation.

Homemade Face Toner

DID YOU KNOW?

Neroli hydrosol (also known as neroli water) is a by-product of extracting oil from the blooms of the bitter orange tree. Since essential oils may be corrosive, they should be used sparingly and only when necessary. Flower waters provide a pleasant fragrance (aromatherapy properties) without being caustic. Don’t be fooled by the beauty of the waters; they are strong skin buddies. However, keep in mind that not all “floral waters” are genuine. Have a look at the label: If it states distilled or any other kind of water with essential oil or aroma added, it is not true floral water. It must state pure (e.g., rose, neroli…) hydrosol or distillate.

2 slices cucumber, cut into thin slices

3 tablespoons distilled water

¼ cup pure witch hazel hydrosol

1 tablespoon aloe juice

Aloe Vera gel is not a novel ingredient in skin care. It has been used for centuries to treat wounds and sunburns. It can be taken orally and applied to your hair, nails, and, of course, your face. It was known as the “plant of the gods” by the ancient Egyptians.

6.   APPLE JUICE, SPARKLING WINE & BEER TONER

YIELD: ABOUT 4 OUNCES TIME: 15 MINUTES

GOOD FOR: ALL SKIN TYPES, BUT A PATCH TEST IS RECOMMENDED FOR SENSITIVE

SKIN

Beer’s yeast kills bacteria and slows sebum production; apple juice contains malic acid, which has exfoliating properties; and sparkling wine helps restore the skin’s pH level. This super trio gives this toner a resurfacing quality, assisting in the removal of dead skin and the restoration of lustre.

INGREDIENTS

½ teaspoon apple juice

1 teaspoon sparkling wine

½ cup witch hazel hydrosol

1 teaspoon beer

PREPARATION

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a medium mixing basin and well incorporate.

APPLY TWICE DAILY

The skin advantages of beer and sparkling wine are unaffected by price or quality. It all comes down to their active components. If you purchase it expressly for your homemade skin-care products, there’s no need to waste the excess amount if you don’t intend to consume it. You may use it to activate the dry components in a mask, add it to facial steam, or indulge yourself with a splash or two in the bathtub.

You may make a lot of changes to this formula based on your own requirements. Instead of rooibos tea, try chamomile tea for sensitive skin, green tea for anti-ageing benefits, or honeybush tea for acne-fighting characteristics.

Alternate between warm (but never hot) and cold treatments to work your pores. As your pores expand and shut, the action helps eliminate dirt, oil, and pollutants while also tightening and toning them. Freeze any of the toners in an ice cube tray to do this. Wrap a thin washcloth around one cube. Use the steam or warm cloth to open your pores when steaming or bathing (or just having a warm washcloth ready), then shut them by running the washcloth with the ice cube over your skin. Repeat a few times. On hot days, wrap your “iced” toner in a towel and use it as a skin-healing, cooling treat.

9.   CUCUMBER, LEMON & TEA TONER

YIELD: ABOUT 4 OUNCES TIME: 30 MINUTES (PLUS OVERNIGHT REFRIGERATION)

GOOD FOR: ALL SKIN TYPES

½ cup distilled water

1 bag chamomile, green, white, or rooibos tea

3 cucumber slices, cut thin

2 lemon slices with rind, cut thin

⅛ Cup apple cider vinegar

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan on heat. Fill a large glass or cup halfway with water and add the teabag. Let it too steep for 10 minutes before removing the tea bag and allowing it to cool fully.
  2. Combine the cucumber and lemon slices, as well as the cooled tea, in a small container with a cover. Refrigerate the jar overnight, sealed.
  3. Remove the cucumber and lemon pieces from the tea the next day and add the vinegar. Seal the container and shake vigorously.
  4. Transfer to an airtight container using a funnel.

Heat treatment has been used to remove contaminants from distilled water. As a result, it is the best form of water to utilize in your DIY projects. Nevertheless, if all you have is tap water, that’s OK, and if you can run it through a filter, that’s even better.

Who Is Appropriate for Using Face Toner?
